01 / The situation
Months of work. One day to get it right.
The show starts months out. Entries come in and have to be reviewed and approved, classes get set, awards get sponsors, photos get chased for the program. All of it lands in spreadsheets and inboxes, and the master copy lives on one laptop.
Then the day arrives and it moves to paper. Judges walk the field with clipboards and deduct points by hand. Someone tallies the sheets in a back room while the awards ceremony is already loading up. Class placements get argued over and tiebreakers get remembered differently.
Show and Tally replaces both halves with one system the whole show runs on, from the first entry through the last trophy, where every approval, score, correction, and placement is recorded as it happens and nothing has to be reconstructed from memory.

The planning months
Entries, classes, and the field plan.
Registration
Vehicles register into a class and get an entry number automatically
(class-001). Registration windows open and close on
schedule.
MotorsportReg sync
Attendees and vehicles import straight from MotorsportReg and re-sync on an interval, so the field list stays current without re-keying.
Review & approval
Each entry gets reviewed: classification (open/closed, CCCA classic), the photo that will appear on the program, and any correction to the owner's details.
Classes & awards
Classes, awards, sponsors, and scoresheets are configured per show, so last year's results stay accurate when this year's classes change.
Areas & geography
Classes are assigned to field areas, so every car has a known place on the grass before gates open.
Exports for print
A graphic-design package (vehicle CSV plus selected images) exports as a single zip for the program and signage team.
Show day
Check-in, judging, and scoring.
Check-in & tour
Mark arrivals as cars come through the gate, and record tour attendance, which doubles as the tiebreaker when two cars finish level.
Deduction scoring
Every car starts perfect. Judges deduct 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, or 2 points per criterion against a scoresheet template you build and reorder yourself.
Paper when you need it
Printable and blank scoresheets for judges who'd rather work on paper, entered afterward, with corrections tracked rather than erased.
Live progress
An event-progress view shows what's checked in, what's been judged, and what's still outstanding while the show is running.
People's Choice
Spectators register and vote from their phones on a public page. One verified vote each, opening and closing on your schedule.
Vehicle locator
A public lookup that turns an entry number into a location on the field, for spotters, spectators, and anyone hunting car 12-004.
Results & awards
The tally, and the ceremony.
Class placement
Classes rank by score with tour attendance as the tiebreaker, against the minimum scores you set for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Computed, or selected by hand when the judges override.
Top 4 and Best in Show
Best Classic, Best Non-Classic, Best Open, and Best Closed are filtered to eligible cars; Best in Show is chosen from those four.
Special awards
Memorial and sponsor awards outside the class structure, assigned to a vehicle and credited to the right sponsor.
Emcee & spotter sheets
Two printed views of the same results: a script for the announcer, and spotter sheets for the crew pulling cars to the ramp.
Finalization
Warnings for unfinalized scores and unmarked tour attendance before you lock placements, so nothing gets announced on incomplete data.
Reports & sharing
Winners reports, score reports, attendee maps, and password-protected share links for lists you send outside the organization.
03 / Under the hood
Nothing is overwritten.
Show and Tally never edits over the top of what it already knows. Every action, whether a car registered, a score corrected, or a placement locked, is stored as a fact, and every screen is built by reading the facts back.
A full account of the show
When someone asks why a car placed second, the answer is in the record: who scored it, what changed, and when. Not a best guess a week later.
Built on UmaDB
Every fact is kept in UmaDB, a database built to store exactly this: an append-only record of what happened, in the order it happened.
Elixir and Phoenix LiveView
Real-time, server-rendered screens that stay in sync across the judging crew without an app to install. Roles and permissions decide who can score, correct, and finalize.
